Wow, the saga of Intense Math continues! Just returned from the Phoenix Film Project mixer to anounce the Screen Wars Comedy challenge winner. Alas, we did not win the overall, but we did not leave emptyhanded. Fittingly, Gabe, Brad, and Chris were all recognized for their acting, taking home Best Ensemble Cast. I won for Best Cinematography, and for Best Editing, which was shared with Brock. Brock seems to want to have no part of this award, though he wasn't there for most of the editing, his input was valuable. Also, I think the acting award reflects highly on his insightful direction on the set.
The mixer was great, met a lot of nice people and took a lot of cards (note: we need our own cards). We got a lot of positive feedback on the film. It seems people, other filmmakers no less, actually did pick up on all of the subtleties of the film. It's tough to be objective about your own work, but it was nice to hear other people comment on the creeping, opening dolly shots, the whiteboard sequence, the single tear, and all the little things.
Let's take this show on the road. Festivals, here we come!

Honestly, I deserve no part of the editing award. I thought that it was made perfectly clear that Josh took care of the editing…and it shouldn’t be recognized any way else. The things you did on this film Josh, from color correcting that first shot through the doors to the fast, snap cut action of Gabe working the equation was none of my doing. The one editing decision I had in the film? Cutting Gabe’s death fall three times over to stress the impact of that moment. That was it. And it was probably something you would have figured out yourself. The only reason I didn’t refute my part of the award was because I didn’t want to seem ungrateful to the fine folks at the Phoenix Film Project. But I don’t deserve to be part of that award.
Anyway, I did take the most pride in the Acting Award. I do feel very pleased about that one. And of course, Josh bagged himself another cinematography award. Bravo. And the people we met and talked with were very nice. I’m glad to hear people tell me they liked the film. And it’s cool to get people’s insight into their own work. That was definitely the highlight of the night.
Ah, yes! I knew you had a say in some things. And the black frames between those cuts was inspired by Inside Out, as well. A direct rip-off, in fact. Sweet!
Congrats on the awards! So who won the overall thing? Tell me it wasn't that stupid Phone Booth. It sounds like somebody had more friends than you.
So, Joshua, where are the alternate Business lyrics and the demo? It's been too long now. I will not post more lyrics until I get a demo.
